As a faith-based organization dedicated to promoting the science of Christian Counselling and Psychotherapy throughout Canada, the United States, and around the world, the fundamental purpose of the Evangelical Order of Certified Pastoral Counsellors of America is as follows:

• To unite and certify Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists across Canada and the United States so that individuals can receive counselling from a biblical perspective.
• Provide legal protection for Counsellors and for the unsuspecting public, as well as for Christian Churches and Ministries.
• To relieve the over-burdened Church Pastor by providing a trustworthy counselling service.
• To counsel and witness to the public at large who are seeking help but have not yet considered a Church and to witness to the world of the healing power and the authority of the Blood of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.
• To train and certify counsellors that would ensure a Pastor that the individual has been screened, trained, and is competant to render effective assistance within the Church.
• To render assistance through referral services for specific problems.
• To bring troubled individuals to the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and to assist them in becoming established in an appropriate home church.
